I kind of fell off the boat with this class this week. I didn't have the money until Friday to buy the books, and when I went to the Bookstore on Friday, they were out of the Exploring Language book, aka the one I really needed for the assignments. Soon after I realized it was on reserve at the library, and decided to spend the $400 dollars (yes exaggerating) it would cost to copy the pages of the book I needed...to my surprise, the library closed about 9 minutes before I got there, and isn't open on weekends. Yay. I think I may be a little spoiled by universities, but not every student has the time to work on assignments Monday-Friday. When I used to go to AVC I was generally in class all day, then worked weekdays 3-11pm.
The most annoying this about this is the attitude I got from the employee at the bookstore I talked to. He just had this "I don't give a shit what it means to you" attitude about the whole thing and offered a special order...who knows how long that would take. So I went home, defeated, and ordered the book on Amazon. Hopefully I will get it sometime this year so I can catch up on work. I even check the Palmdale Library, and the CSUB library, just in case they happened to have it.
I am looking forward to this group project. I love seeing other peoples ideas and collaborating. Being in groups also helps immensely with my procrastination. I am responsible for other peoples grades, and therefore make sure I get the work done. Its just common courtesy really.
Its not just AVC's bookstore I hate, CSUB is often annoying as well. I needed a custom lab manual for my organic chemistry class last year, and special ordered it in Fall...I didn't get it until Spring. Remember, CSUB is on quarters, so 2/3 of the year I didn't have this book. I blame the internet. Ever since people started buying majority of their textbooks online, college bookstores have cut the number of textbooks they order for each class, expecting a certain number of people will order online.
I am done, but not defeated. I will catch up, I can do this.
Ugh, CSUB starts next week, I HAVE to catch up. No choice.
Sorry you are having a tough week. Amazon.com is one of my favorite places amd most times, even their used retailers, are quite prompt. Some of the speeches this week are on line, so if you need to get the titles and can't find the index of EL on line, give a holler.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the book from Amazon, should receive it Saturday. Thank you for the offer. I went to AVC today and spent $10 copying the book. Angering many people behind me in the copy room. Oh well. Now to catch up on reading!
